 La actividad que los astronautas realizan en el espacio es un buen indicador de cómo se comporta nuestro cuerpo ante determinadas situaciones.

Desde la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA) nos llega un experimento realizado con pacientes que, a pesar de estar pensado para la vida en el espacio, tiene interesantes implicaciones en nuestro día a día aquí en la Tierra.

Les han llamado "almohadanautas" y son un grupo de voluntarios que se han sometido a una curiosa investigación:

¿Cómo afecta a nuestro organismo el estar tumbado durante largos periodos de tiempo? ¿Y si la cama está inclinada unos pocos grados?

Desde hace unos días, un grupo de 12 personas se están sometiendo a este experimento y pasan las horas tumbados en una cama con una inclinación de seis grados. Los resultados son muy interesantes: 
Permanecer con la cabeza en la parte baja de la cama afecta negativamente a nuestro cuerpo, tanto como si envejeciéramos de forma prematura.



La experiencia en tan sólo unos días está dejando a la luz algunos datos impactantes. A pesar de que realizan frecuentes ejercicios en una plataforma vibratoria para sus piernas y llevan una cuidada alimentación, los participantes han perdido rápidamente un alto porcentaje de masa muscular y en algunos casos han bajado hasta cuatro kilos de peso.

Se está llevando a cabo una observación muy completa que incluye escáneres de resonancia magnética, análisis de sangre o biopsias y los resultados hasta ahora son impactantes: Solo unos grados de inclinación afectan radicalmente a nuestro organismo.

El estudio concluirá en algunas semanas y al finalizar, los voluntarios deberán pasar hasta cuatro meses de rehabilitación para recuperar el tono muscular perdido.

Así que, ya saben… de entre los múltiples factores que influyen en nuestro sueño, no es bueno olvidar que la inclinación también es muy importante. Parece que el mito en los libros y el cine de que los vampiros son inmortales, durmiendo boca abajo como los murciélagos, no se corresponde mucho con la realidad.

A Revolutionary breakthrough claimed by a Paignton man is to be investigated
by top scientists. Ideas man Andrew K Fletcher claims he has disproved a fundamental law of physics dating back to the 17th century. And impressed by the historic experiment at Overgang cliff, Brixham, to raise water 78 feet without the support of any artificial aids,
John Hunt, Senior forestry Officer for Devon and Somerset who witnessed the
experiment's success last Friday said: 'It was quite impressive.
The rule that water will only rise 32 feet under atmospheric pressure when in a column was effectively disproved."
But Mr Hunt explained that he is a professional forester not a scientist and
a report on the experiment would be sent to the Forestry commission 's Alice
Holt Research Station, near Farnham in Surrey, for further investigation. Mr Fletcher's experiment involves a long water filled plastic tube, strung
up the cliffside with both open ends placed in two filled demijohns.
A small amount of a salt solution is added at the top of the tube before it is completely filled with water, this acts as a liquid pulley says Mr Fletcher, lifting water from one demijohn to the other, thereby disproving Torriceli's 17th century law. This explains how trees can raise water to their tops beyond the 32 feet limit."

said an ecstatic Mr Fletcher. He believes that the discovery also suggests a mechanism by which all life on earth has evolved from the ground. Cliff experiment pulls plug on 300 year old law of physics

The Experiment at Brixham Overgang Cliffs where water flowed vertical up a single 6 mm bore tubing using 10 mils of salt solution, demonstrating that a tiny amount of denser solution can lift effortlessly many thousands of times it's own volume in water without any artificial aids, demonstrating clearly a non living physical cause of bulk flow in plants trees, animals and humans. The 10 metre limit for lifting water clearly needs some serious revision.
